Here’s a little spiel on how I acquired my Sachs Madass.
Back in 2008 I had noticed the odd advert in the local bike mags featuring this strange looking beastie! Being a person who likes ‘different’ looking bikes I became somewhat interested in acquiring one.
Living in Tasmania there were no dealers for Sachs machines and the only ones I could find were on the Australian mainland which immediately creates a logistical problem ie getting one here.
Several months passed by in which I researched them and looked at examples on YouTube, then perchance I saw one offered for sale brand new going for half price as it was won in a raffle and the recipient was a big man and a plumber who had no use for it.
It was in the north of the state in Devonport which is about four hours drive away so I borrowed a trailer and went up to see it and duly purchased it.
It needed a good wash as it had been in his workshop for weeks. I was now the owner of a Madass!
I soon became aware of its limitations in the power department as a little 125cc, it ‘died’ on long gradients and was very frustrating.
The current motor is now a GPX 160 HO which is twice the power output of the original Sachs engine. This offers much more usability and although still a relatively small motor it is far better than stock.
I fitted a 39 tooth Talon rear sprocket to suit the new motor and along with the 26mil carb and unrestricted silencer system goes and sounds a treat.
See my pics, cheers Jan.
